VERA LYNN —103 YEARS OLD
Most youngbloods out there might not recognize the name Vera Lynn, but during World War II, she’s one of the most popular people in the entertainment scene. She’s a singer-songwriter who also worked at some point as an actress. For those war veterans out there, we bet all our credit cards that they will instantly recognize her as “The Forces’ Sweetheart.” She earned this nickname after she played a few concerts for the troops stationed in Burma, Egypt and India.
In addition to her music career, she has also made many contributions to charity and enthusiastically participated in various activities, including compassionate veterans, caring for disabled children and breast cancer patients. During her 100th birthday, she released a compilation album of her past hits called Vera Lynn 100. The album was a success and she made history as the first centenarian performer to have an album in the charts.
